# Your first task

Get a useful first draft by giving Keli a small task and the material to work from.

1. Open Keli and sign up using a sign-in method shown on screen. On a new device, you may need the code sent to your email.
2. On the web, finish the short welcome screens. Your role helps Keli suggest starting tasks; it does not limit what you can ask.
3. Start a new chat. Use the attachment control to add the file you want Keli to work from.
4. Type what the result should look like, then send.

> “Read this meeting transcript. Give me five decisions and a table of actions, owners, and due dates. Mark missing dates as unknown.”

Using a phone? See [Keli on iOS and Android](/mobile-get-started) for mobile navigation, attachments, and voice.

## Give it something concrete

| Works well | Works less well |
| --- | --- |
| “Rewrite this email in 150 words. Keep the dates and a friendly tone.” | “Make this better.” |
| “Compare these two proposals on price, scope, and missing details.” | “Pick the best supplier.” |
| Attach the spreadsheet and name the columns you need. | Describe a spreadsheet Keli cannot see. |

## Refine the result

Say what to change: “Keep the table, but put overdue items first.” Download files you want to keep. If the result is heading the wrong way, stop the run and narrow the request.

Use [Effort](/effort) for harder questions, [Projects](/projects) for instructions you reuse, and [Cowork](/cowork) when the task needs a connected account.
