How credits work
See what uses your balance, which limit you reached, and how to make credits last.
What is a credit?
Credits measure the work Keli does for you. A short answer uses less than a long investigation with many steps. These examples describe typical activity, not a promise that every request costs the same:

Your balance and limits
The usage gauge shows your credit period. Credits reset on your billing anniversary, not the first day of the calendar month. Paid plans can carry unused credits into the next period, up to the cap shown on Plans. Free has no rollover.
The short-term limit is a rolling five-hour backstop. It is usually hidden until you approach it. The monthly allowance and short-term limit are separate; a positive monthly balance does not override a short-term block.
Which limit did I hit?

What happens to a running task?
Keli checks usage before accepting a request. An already accepted response can finish and be metered afterward; reaching a limit is not a guarantee that a running action is canceled midway. Additional tool requests may have their own usage checks. A later request or continuation can be refused when the account is blocked. Inspect the activity panel before retrying, so you do not repeat an action that already completed.
Top-ups
Top-ups add credits after the allowance and rollover are spent. They work on every plan, including Free, and remain valid for 365 days from purchase even if you cancel a subscription. The earliest-expiring credits are used first. Top-ups do not remove the short-term limit.

Why did that cost so much?
Long chats send their history again with later messages. Cowork can take many steps. Images, searches, and higher effort add work. A short final answer can still follow a long investigation.
Use fewer credits
- Start a fresh chat for unrelated work.
- Lower effort for simple requests.
- Put reusable instructions in a Project instead of repeatedly pasting them.
- Attach the relevant material and say what done looks like.
- Stop a run early if it is heading in the wrong direction.
Estimate a month
The calculator below uses typical message, image, and search examples. Effort does not have a fixed multiplier, so the result is a baseline, not a quote. It excludes rollover and top-ups and does not predict short-term blocks.
